Tired

I find that this has been one of the most exhausting weeks ever. Running on very few hours of sleep a night. Running around all day doing stuff.

When I felt like I was never going to make it up the next day I prayed for rest and the strength to do what He wants me to do that day. I ended up waking up fully refreshed after very little sleep when I was already exhausted when the week BEGAN. Those 2 times I prayed I also ended up waking up before my alarm. Madness.

Serving is one thing I’ve spent a lot of this week doing and I think there’re few things better! I’m exhausted but I still don’t regret serving toasted sandwiches to drunk people until 2.30am! Or not finishing the cleanup and all and getting myself into bed until 4am last night.

When we serve God we will always have His strength. He WILL sustain.

Whether that’s doing ministry and evangelism, leading worship or a bible study, or even just getting to class. He has a plan for each of us and part of my plan is getting to class. Granted I’m a not the best example (being a Theology student), but an exhausted Med student getting to class because God has put her on a path to be a healer is as much serving God as anything else.

And if we lean on Him, because we can’t stand up to all this world throws at us on our own, He will hold us up.

Just one other thing: part of serving God and doing as He wishes includes REST! We are commanded to rest.

So I’ll leave it there.

And maybe go to sleep soon.

A Long Week, A Good Week

Come and listen, come to the water’s edge, all you who know and fear the Lord.
Come and listen, come to the water’s edge all you who are thirsty, come.

Let me tell you what He has done for me.
Let me tell you what He has done for me,
He has done for you,
He has done for us.

Come and listen,
come and listen to what He’s done.
Come and listen,
come and listen to what He’s done.

‘Come and Listen’ - David Crowder Band

I somehow feel like I’ve used those lyrics before but I think  they really sum up how this week has been. For those who are unaware, this week was the St Andrews Christian Union Events Week (a.k.a. Missions Week). There were events of all kinds, lunchbars, toastie bars, talks, seminars etc.

In our hall we ran 2 events. The first was Text a Toastie where people could text us orders, room numbers and questions about God or Christianity for us to answer while delivering them. Aside from a busy night we got some amazing conversations about God and faith in with some of the most unlikely people ever.

The other event just finished, entitled Grill a Christian where we had a chance to eat burgers as well as have people ask questions of 2 CU Guests we had to answer their questions. I was exhausted, running on nothing but prayers (literally) and 4 hours of sleep from the night before. I also realised there was nothing I could do for Grill a Christian after a point so I embarked on a new little idea I picked up from someone called a prayer walk. It is literally that, walking around the outside of the hall praying.

But as I started on what should have been a 10 minute circuit I felt convicted to do 2 things. The first was to have St. Andrews raise a shout of praise but also a request to God to come down on Andrew Melville Hall like a pillar of guiding fire in the desert. And hence I thank Him for free texting.

The other was to make like Joshua at Jericho and help tear down the walls surrounding Melville. And so it turned into an hour of going around 7 times. I still feel like a bit of an idiot. And I still feel doubts about what it did. But all I know is that we were very worried about the bad start we got off to and when I got back one friend of mine said it was great. In fact it was the best and most successful evangelistic event he’d seen in terms of letting people who would normally not be involved with christians or church hear about God and Jesus and here good answers to their questions.

So whatever one might say, I say praise be to God yo! And I hope those prayers made a difference. Because prayer is definitely the engine room of everything we do. I still don’t even completely understand how. I mean God will do as God will do. But he delights when we speak to Him and we are told to pray to Him whether it’s for something we want or to simply say “Your will be done!”.

All I do know is that walls crumbled here tonight. And this week. This week has been an endless stream of stories of people coming out and, just like the song above, telling people to COME AND LISTEN. To come to the water’s edge and maybe find the truth that they’ve searched for but not found in partying, drinking, philosophy, arts, literature and even the church (let’s not be naive here, many churches have been stunningly unable to live and teach the gospel to certain people). Stories of conversations about God, opportunities to tell people the Gospel. It’s been epic and I know the Spirit’s been at work here in everyone’s lives.

Yep, prayer’s been good.

God’s been good.

And so has this incredible week. But I pray that the drive to tell everyone about God not be limited to this week though! We must go, all the time! Not just because it’s missions week.

And you know what else, at the end of all this tiring Jesus madness?

Rest is good too.

And so shall I be partaking of SOME OF THAT.

Tear down the walls see the world
Is there something we have missed
Turn from ourselves
Look beyond
There is so much more than this

95% of people on my Tumblr won't read this, but as we speak, Libyan people are being massacred, because they're rebelling against an unfair government. The elderly, women, children, everyone in Libya is in danger tonight. It's genocide. Reblog this to raise awareness and support the revolution.

I think all my followers will read this, because that’s just the sort of good crowd that I’ve attracted. Don’t prove me wrong now.

“

And as the father embraced his son, the dirt and soot that clung to his skin - that had seemed to be a part of him all these years - was caught by a gentle breeze and found itself effortlessly scattered to the winds. Two powerful arms wrapped gently, yet firmly, around the bewildered young man’s entire body; a huge torso clad in a beautiful gown curled over the boy as if to protect him from any harm that might come.

The son, eyes wide in shock and arms forced and frozen straight out due to the surprise he felt, craned his head upwards to look at his father. Framed with the light of the sun and the blue of the sky a small rainfall began. The tears of the father’s joy fell on the son’s face like rain. The son’s arms curled around his father’s body and he buried his face in his father’s robes to dry his own tears.

Then the father picked up his son, evoking such a surprise that the son let go of his father but alas the father held on to him like there was no tomorrow. The son’s joyful protestations and flailing of limbs did nothing to slow the father’s pace as he brought his beloved son back into the home.

And the celebrations began.
