I believe the BBC should have listened beyond the first 2 minutes of the Queen’s speech this year. Perhaps they’ll have noticed that the focus was not on family. It was on the Gospel, the Good News.
She unashamedly speaks the truth about what Christmas is about, the love of God and the hope that we have of a light when we feel like we’re surrounded by nothing but darkness.
What a legend.

“Although we are capable of great acts of kindness, history teaches us that we sometimes need saving from ourselves, from our recklessness and our greed. God sent into the world a unique person. Neither a philosopher nor a general, important though they are, but a Saviour with the power to forgive”
“It is my prayer that on this Christmas day, we might all find room in our lives for the message of the angels and for the love of God through Christ our Lord.”
Queen Elizabeth II
“And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”
Luke 2:10-11
I am finally, officially, releasing this track. It was originally recorded as part of a compilation for the people of North Korea, entitled Let Morning Shine. (That’s the first line in the North Korean national anthem. Brilliant, I know.)
I can’t think of a better day to release this than on Christmas Eve, after the passing of Kim Jung-Il. While that may sound somewhat dark to some, the song is about the raw and inflamed longing for a different sort of ruler. You can download/find out more about it at richwu.bandcamp.com.
Oh, and also, two people whom I don’t know somehow found and purchased the song from Bandcamp last month! I’d never shared the link with anyone, so I’ve no idea how they found it. Sharing music is always quite scary for me - akin, really, to an intimate disclosure of the soul - so those two downloads made my day(s) :)
I love this song. And this guy. And his family (immediate and extended). They’re awesome. MERRY CHRISTMAS RICHIE AND SARAH.
Richard Wu’s beautiful Magnificat, introduced to me by Ollie Ip is my favorite Christmas song of the year and appropriately recorded for the album…
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
For Unto Us A Child Is Born! :D
It’s the ‘end’ (not really since I still have exams) of a semester.
Goodbyes have been said, tears have been shed
And the time to leave grows ever closer.But there’re some final things to be said
Thoughts buried in my head
To get out before I ride the winds westerOf great friendships made
And the farewells we bade
To the gifts of grace that wePlatypus.

I am a brilliant platypus sassy freakin’ poet.
But seriously, I’m about to head back to HK and I feel it opportune now to say that I have met so many amazing people this semester and grown even closer to many who I knew before.
It’s been a pleasure. I’m sorry I haven’t been good at taking out real time to be with people much this semester. There is no excuse.
Dear JSAs, you are leaving and I am sad.
But we’ll see each other again, I know it.
Journey mercy,
See you on the other side.

ladies and gents, the new legacy of my old high school…..

I surrender to the safety
of Your nail pierced hands.
I surrender to the path
of Your blood stained feet.
Cause Your hands were pierced for me,
and Your feet they bled for me,
and You suffered just to claim me.
You have claimed me for Your kingdom
You have claimed me for Your glory
I am Yours
I am Yours
I am Yours
I belong to You
I belong to You
I belong to You
my Lord.

Hm, homemade curry, rice, naan, brownies (very peculiar yet delicious brownies) and daal. Followed by a couple hours of prayer and playing praise music as background in a beautiful chapel. Followed by a visit to some friends that resulted in a glass of 1988 Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey (HOLY CRAP IT WAS AMAZING), some pannetone and a good deal of beautiful beautiful classical music.
With some lovely pleasant/fun/intense walks between,
All in the midst of the most insane wind and rain ever.
But all spent with good friends.
Thank you.
For the last essay is submitted.
WHEEEEEEEEEEEY
From the postscript of “The Roman Empire and the New Testament” by Warren Carter
WHOOOOOOOAAAAAA, considering the entire book is about the political aspect of the New Testament vs. the claims of the Roman Empire… hehehe… totally the most INTERESTING thing I’ve read all day!
Is currently, temporarily, found in opening this, then opening this, then full-screening this, and staring at it.
And basking.
Oh and turn down/off the lights in your room and hook up to some good speakers or headphones.
Do it, do it now.
Thank me later.
Or now.
Your move.
p.s. this is nothing new, but I need anything that maintains my sanity right now…
Lovely lovely :)

We Sing Immanuel Thy Praise,
Lyrics: Paul Gerhardt, 1653, public domain;
additional lyrics & music: Copyright 2009 Tyler Somers (BMI), Jennifer Somers (BMI), One Eyed Cat Music (BMI)
we sing, Immanuel, Thy praise,
Thou Prince of Life and Fount of grace,
Thou Flower of heaven and Star of morn,
Thou Lord of lords, Thou Virgin-born. hallelujah, hallelujah
for Thee, since first the world was made,
so many hearts have watched and prayed;
the patriarchs’ and prophets’ throng
for Thee have hoped and waited long. hallelujah, hallelujah
unto Him a babe
unto Him be praise
unto Him the King
unto Him be glory
now art Thou here, Thou Ever-blest!
in lowly manger dost Thou rest.
thou, making all things great, art small;
so poor art Thou, yet clothest all. hallelujah, hallelujah
had I no load of sin to bear,
Thy grace, O Lord, I could not share;
in vain hadst Thou been born for me
If from God’s wrath I had been free. hallelujah, hallelujah
thus will i sing Thy praises here
with joyful spirit year by year;
and when we reckon years no more,
may i in heaven Thy name adore! hallelujah, hallelujah (2x)

Mark Twain
My future excuse to go shopping. Mark Twain speaks the words that are in my soul that my brain isn’t smart enough to form.

So I figure that this is a better time than any to be sticking up the various prophecies, written in the Hebrew Scriptures hundreds of years before the time of Jesus, that spoke of Him coming.
I do this for 2 reasons: one is that it’s Christmas and I want to focus my anticipation on the person around whom these festivities are (or at least WERE and SHOULD BE) centred around.
And the second is that I am repeatedly awestruck by the things in the Hebrew Bible (a.k.a. the Tanakh, the Law, the Hebrew Scriptures and the Old Testament) that pointed to Jesus so directly and that he fulfilled.
